What does speech-language therapy entail?

Various toys and activities are selected that serve to reinforce treatment goals created for your child to give your child a break between therapeutic activities, and/or simply as a reward for participating in an activity. Throughout the treatment, the SLP guides each activity to elicit the desired behaviors, interactions and/or words from your child that will help him/her make progress towards the goals established at the time of evaluation.

How long is a speech therapy session?

A typical session is 5O-minutes long. Time is spent at the end of the session to consult with families about how their child performed, and to discuss any home strategies and reinforcement activities to engage in with them throughout the week.

How often are sessions and will we be involved as parents?

Frequency of treatment will be determined at the time of your initial consult or evaluation based on your child’s needs. Parents and caregivers are just as integral to a child's progress as the Speech-Language Pathologist. Our philosophy integrates the Caregiver - Child - SLP as equal partners in this process. Weekly treatments are enhanced by home programs for families to help achieve the kind of progress most parents are hoping for their children.

Is Smiling Star Speech & Language contracted with any insurance companies?

We are a participating provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois PPO and Blue Cross Blue Choice PPO plans. Clients with any other insurance plans are requested to pay out-of-pocket at the time of service, and submit to their insurance company for reimbursement at the out-of-network rate.
